10 Best Family Cars From Each Major Auto Brand – TopSpeed

SUVs may dominate the market here in the States when it comes to family, capable utilitarian vehicles. That doesn’t mean, however, that you’re not able to glean the same benefits from a mid or full-size sedan. Automakers are still making them, and they may be here to stay.

Some automakers are making them, because as of 2024, the Chevrolet Malibu is no longer on sale. The last Ford sedan was the Fusion, which stopped production/sales in 2020. Finally, Dodge is making final calls on their longstanding Charger to make way for the EV version.

All that to say, brands like Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, BMW, Volvo, and the like, are still making sedans to sell to American buyers. We’re going to go over which ten sedans we think would be a good fit for a family. Then you can make a decision on whether you still want an SUV or not.

In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from various manufacturers and other authoritative sources. The models below have been ranked based on their starting MSRP, from highest to lowest.

The tried and true Lexus ES is a good choice for those wanting a luxury experience but don’t want to break the bank to get it. We say tried and true because it could benefit from either a refresh or a redesign. The interior is still relevant, however, with a touch of elegance, including an analog clock.

America’s favorite sedan, the Toyota Camry, is back for a remodel and this time, it’s fully hybrid. Powered by a single 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, the Camry gets its power from the all-wheel drive option. Albeit it might not be the TRD V6 that was universally loved, it can still get up to speed pretty quickly.

  • A gorgeously designed interior.
  • Awesome modern exterior design.
  • Incredible gas savings.

Cons

Kia has really pulled out all the stops these past couple of years. It’s made even more evident in the refresh of the 2025 K5. With its devilishly good looks and its devilishly fast turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder, the K5 can get you where you’ve got to go, fast.

  • Slower base engine.
  • Not enough real buttons
  • Smaller back seat.

2025 Hyundai Sonata at dusk
Hyundai

Number one on our list goes to the 2025 Hyundai Sonata. It comes in three different powertrains, including a hybrid model. All end up coming with a CVT only and no step transmission is available. On the high end, the Sonata can make close to 300 horsepower and get 0 to 60 mph in an impressive 5.0 seconds flat.

Performance Specifications

Engine

Turbo or non-turbo 2.5-liter 4-cylinder or 2.0-liter hybrid.

The interior is a nice, modern place to be with a single-panel LED screen that stretches to the center console. It has one of the largest cargo capacities on our list with 16 cubic feet. We think it looks great in the daytime, but that horizontal front running light looks odd at night.

Pros

  • Nicely redesigned interior.
  • The new exterior looks good in the daytime.
  • The least expensive on the list.

Cons

  • Awful nighttime lighting.
  • N-Line is FWD only.
  • Small back seat.
