4 killed, 3 hurt as iron girders fall on autos in Warangal – The Times of India

Warangal: Four persons, including two children, were killed and three others suffered injuries when girders from a truck fell onto a car and two auto-rickshaws near Panthini crossroad in Inavolu mandal, Warangal district, on Sunday morning. The accident triggered a massive traffic congestion, stretching over two kilometres, on the Warangal-Khammam highway. Police diverted traffic and cleared the road using earthmovers.
Around 8.30am, the 16-wheeler truck, carrying the girders from Visakhapatnam and heading towards Nagpur, collided with two autos at a curve on the highway causing the fatal accident. The truck too fell to a side.
Police sources revealed that the truck driver, Yogendra Singh, was reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol. Mamnoor ACP B Thirupathi and inspector O Ramesh along with their teams supervised the rescue.
According to inspector Ramesh, Singh lost control over the wheel, causing it to flip which pushed the girders out of the truck onto the autos.
A case has been registered under Sections 106(1) and 125(A) of the BNS, and the bodies have been sent to MGM Hospital for post-mortem.
The deceased were identified as Santhosh Chouhan, 48, Arthi Chouhan, 20, Kiran Chouhan, 12, and Khanna Chouhan, 7, all natives of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, but living in Warangal.
The injured persons – Chamma Bhai and Mukesh, also residents of Bhopal, and auto driver R Sagar, a resident of SR Thota, Warangal – were rushed to the hospital for treatment. They were said to be out of danger.
The victims and the two injured belonged to the same family and were involved in manufacture of farm tools.
Later, Warangal police commissioner Amber Kishore Jha and collector Dr Satya Sharada visited the accident site. Endowments minister Konda Surekha expressed her condolences over the tragedy and visited the MGM Hospital to console the grieving families.
