8th Avenue Blocked as Car Flips During Friday Rush Hour – W42ST magazine

Traffic on 8th Avenue came to a halt Friday evening when a car flipped over in the middle of the road, creating a chaotic scene during rush hour. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

The crash, which occurred near the Duane Reade between W53rd and W54th Streets, left the overturned vehicle blocking multiple lanes as fire crews extracted the driver from the vehicle.

Witnesses said the driver may have suffered a medical episode — possibly an asthma attack — before losing control of the car.
Two other vehicles were damaged in the crash when the flipped car struck them and even pushed once of the vehicles forward about a foot. The owner of the pushed car, a man from New Jersey, said he was parked for less than an hour before returning to find the rear panel of his car smashed.

With no time to wait for a tow truck, NYPD used an emergency services vehicle to right the flipped car and push it to the side of the road, working quickly to reopen 8th Avenue.
