Infinix’s First Clamshell Foldable Will Bet Heavy On MediaTek

I grew up in a country where Infinix was a major player. I know that not too many people will say that since Infinix mostly stays away from developed markets that are already saturated with big players. To be fair, it is a strategy that has worked very well for the company and its sensibly-priced smartphones.

Infinix is trying to play with the big boys now, by releasing its very first foldable phone. It’ll have a clamshell form factor and with its specs having been leaked by the people over at MySmartPrice, we now know a lot more regarding what we can expect from it.

The Infinix Zero Flip 5G Is Going To Have A Dimensity 8020 And A Solid Slate Of Midrange Specs

Infinix has never released a foldable smartphone before, unlike its close sibling Tecno. The company presents itself as one for the hip and trendy youth, so it isn’t surprising to me that the company chooses for its first attempt to be a clamshell foldable instead of a book-style one. It’s easier to make the former cheaper and they tend to be seen as the more fashion-forward option.

The entire spec sheet for the upcoming foldable has been leaked and for the most part, you can’t hate on what it brings to the table — though its price will make it easiest to tell whether it’s worth buying or not. It’ll be available in two colorways: Rock Black and Blossom Glow, which are basically black and pink.

The phone will have a 6.9-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED display while the cover display will be a 3.64-inch 120Hz AMOLED unit. Both will have FHD+ resolution. The phone will have 512GB of internal storage, which is impressive, along with 8GB of RAM. MediaTek’s Dimensity 8020 will power the phone, alongside a 4,720 mAh cell keeping the lights on.

The camera setup is expected to be a dual 50MP combo, with the secondary lens being an ultrawide. The front camera will also be 50MP. The phone will have two SIM card slots like most of Infinix’s devices and will support 5G. There’s no word on the pricing, but with these specs, I expect it to be priced somewhere around the $700 mark. If it is any lower than that, I can tell you now that it’ll be value for money.

We Don’t Know Exactly When It’s Coming, But It Should Be Soon

If you’re already used to using mid-range phones and you don’t mind paying some extra cash to get yourself a mid-range device with extra cool points, then the Infinix Zero Flip 5G is likely somewhere high up on your list. The only thing is, if you’re planning to get one for yourself, there’s no date to work with at the moment.

However, if you want me to make a guess as to when it might show up, I’d say it’ll be next month — if it doesn’t surprise us all and show up before the end of the month.
