Xiaomi's first flip smartphone 'MIX Flip' launches globally

Xiaomi debuted its first-ever flip smartphone, the MIX Flip, earlier this year in China. The company’s CEO later confirmed the global launch of the MIX Flip would happen sometime in September. Well, the day is here. Today, Xiaomi has launched the MIX Flip globally to take on the likes of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Moto Razer 50 Ultra. Now that the device is here, let’s deep dive into the details that we’ve on our hands.

Xiaomi finally launched the MIX Flip to global markets with some killer specs

For starters, the MIX Flip sports a 4.01-inch display on the outside which the company calls an “All Around Liquid outer display.” The cover display comes with a 1392 x 1208 resolution and spreads pretty much to the entire area, except for the camera cutouts. It should be noted that the cover display is protected by “Xiaomi Shield Glass.”

The Xiaomi MIX Flip’s cover display comes with a 120Hz refresh rate. That’s a big plus when compared to the 60Hz of the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s cover display. Flipping the phone open, you’ll be greeted by a 6.86-inch 120Hz LTPO display. The inner display comes with 2912 x 1224 pixels resolution and has a peak brightness of 3000 nits. So, using the phone outdoors on brighter sunny days won’t be a problem.

In addition, Xiaomi’s MIX Flip packs the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset under the hood for performance duties. Besides, there is a 3500mm vapor chamber inside to prevent overheating issues which is quite common on flip phones. However, it lacks an IP rating as well. The MIX Flip runs on Xiaomi’s HyperOS software which is based on Android 14. However, the look and feel of it is quite different.

Details about camera, battery, price, and availability

The MIX Flip features a Leica-branded dual-camera setup on the cover display, which doubles up as rear lenses once you flip open the Android phone. There’s one 50MP primary lens that comes with PDAF autofocus and OIS for better photography and stable videography experience.

On top of that, there’s a 50MP telephoto lens which offers 2x optical zoom. On the inside, there’s a 32MP front-facing camera for selfies. However, we know most of you’ll be using the ones on the cover screen for all your selfie needs.

The Xiaomi MIX Flip also stands out with a 4780mAh battery which is relatively bigger than the 4000mAh battery inside the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Besides, the flip phone comes with 67W HyperCharge fast-wired charging support. The best part is that you also get a charger in the retail box. Notably, there’s no support for wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging.

Talking of price, the base model of Xiaomi MIX Flip with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage starts at €1,299 (~$1,447). You’ll be able to choose this flip phone from Black and Purple color options. Xiaomi has promised four years of major OS updates and five years of security patches for the device. Moreover, the device comes with Wi-Fi 7, dual 5G SIM support, and stereo speakers.
