Document offers information on equipment fleets of 158 transit agencies in U.S., six in Canada
WASHINGTON — The American Public Transportation Assocation this week released the latest edition of its Public Transprtation Vehicle Database, which offers a detailed look at the fleets of approximately 158 transit agencies in the U.S. — accounting for approximately 77% of U.S. transit ridership — as well as six in Canada.
The database offers details on alternative energy use, safety and technology, and support for multimodal transportation (such as the fact that half of light rail vehicles and 77% of buses are equipped with bike racks). It provides information on age of agency equipment fleets, new vehicle orders, equipment manufacturers, and other data, such as an agency-by-agency count of the number of commuter rail locomotives in use.
“APTA’s Public Transportation Vehicle Database is an indispensable tool for understanding the current state and future direction of our nation’s transit fleets,” APTA President and CEO Paul P. Skoutelas said in a press release. “Through this resource, we’re equipping policymakers, including Members of Congress and their staffs, with the data they need to make informed decisions about critical public transportation infrastructure and funding needs.”
The current edition of the vehicle database is available here, along with earlier editions dating to 2015.
