iPhone 17 Pro to include new button which will merge two existing ones

It has been barely a month since Apple debuted the iPhone 16 series and we are already getting rumors about the iPhone 17 series. Last month, there were reports that iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air (or iPhone 17 Slim) could sport 120Hz displays. Now, we have yet another rumor from a popular tipster who claims that the iPhone 17 Pro could feature a new button.

iPhone 17 Pro tipped to feature a new button to merge volume and Action buttons’ functionality

Today, a popular leaker, Majin Bu Official, tipped a major design and behavioral change for the iPhone 17 Pro. Per his recent post on X, the iPhone 17 Pro could feature a single button replacing the volume and the Action buttons. That means Apple could merge the function of volume and Action buttons into one allowing the device to be thinner.

Majin Bu talks more about the rumored new button in his blog post and adds it could offer more functionality. He further speculates that Apple could use the new button for some kind of volume control, ringtone, and other functions. However, the exact function of the new rumored button for the iPhone 17 Pro is not clear as of now.

Apple has aimed to unify the volume buttons in its past prototypes

For those unaware, Apple introduced the Action button on iPhone 15 Pro models last year. The Action button replaces the old mute switch and allows users to customize different shortcuts. That’s not all, the latest iPhone 16 Pro and other models also come with a new camera control button this time around to offer a seamless camera experience. So, Apple may be thinking something similar with the new button for the iPhone 17 Pro.

Moving on, the tipster also mentions that he is not entirely sure about the authenticity of the information. However, he adds that with the past prototypes, Apple has shown an intention to do something like this.
