Since getting a new Jeep last year, I haven’t had any problems or complaints. I’ve never had any incidents with any cars I’ve driven, except a flat tire once, but that all changed Thursday afternoon.
Somehow, I scraped too close against something (a tree) and popped the blinker of my Jeep out of its socket. Not to be dramatic but I thought I’d be sick for a moment.

I could only imagine what my husband Michael would say later, so I was determined to fix it before having to explain.
I called Pete’s Paint and Body, who works on law enforcement vehicles, and comes highly recommended.
The receptionist told me they had some time and to come on by to see what they could do.
While the mechanic looked at my car, who I can only assume was his granddaughter came trotting out of the office to see the ducks in my windshield.
Jeep ducking is a tradition of placing rubber ducks on other Jeeps as a way to spread camaraderie among other Jeep owners. The random act of kindness has brought me many ducks and I display my favorites on my dashboard.
I asked the toddler if she’d like to have one to play with.
She shied away a bit, unsure, but then promptly nodded.
I gave her my long-time favorite duck that’s painted white and meant to look like a unicorn. It’s complete with long flowing colorful hair and a unicorn horn.
She smiled in delight and quickly got to running around and playing pretend with the duck.
As the mechanic worked on my car, I told him how this was my Jeep’s first blemish.
He smiled and said he could probably fix it with just a couple of washers and a drill, otherwise, it would have to be completely replaced. The receptionist ran me an estimate that came to the tune of $183.
I crossed my fingers and hoped the big washer and screw the mechanic mentioned was the answer to my prayers.
“You’re not in a rush, are you?” he asked.
“Well, I am on the clock….” I said.
He laughed and got back to fidgeting with my blinker.
Not two minutes later he said he was finished and the blinker was fixed.
“You’ll have that minor scratch, but that should hold.” he said.
“What’s the damage?” I asked.
“Don’t worry about it.” he said.
“I’m worried about it,” I said jokingly. “Seriously, how much do I owe you?”
He smiled and repeated himself.
I thanked him and got in my Jeep smiling ear to ear.
I couldn’t help but feel relief flooding through my body as I drove back to the office. It’s as if the damage never happened.
I told Michael everything that happened and he said how that was nice of the shop, and I agreed.
I don’t plan on damaging my car again, but if I do, I know where I’ll be returning.
