Colin Farrell’s ‘Sugar’ Renewed For Season 2 At Apple – Deadline

Detective John Sugar is coming back.

Apple has renewed Colin Farrell-led drama series Sugar for a second season.

The first season of the detective drama saw Farrell’s Sugar, a private investigator hired by Hollywood titan Jonathan Siegel, played by James Cromwell, investigate the mysterious disappearance of his granddaughter, Olivia, played by Sydney Chandler.

[SPOILER ALERT] The twist? He’s an alien (one of his skills is processing alcohol 50 times faster than humans).

Amy Ryan, Anna Gunn, Dennis Boutsikaris, Nate Corddry, Sydney Chandler, Alex Hernandez and Kirby, formerly known as Kirby Howell-Baptiste, also starred in season one.

Season two will see Sugar find himself back in Los Angeles taking on another missing person’s case, as he continues to look for answers surrounding his missing sister.

The series was created by Mark Protosevich, who has written movies including I Am Legend and The Cell. He was also showrunner of season one but has been replaced by Sam Catlin, who was previously showrunner of AMC’s Preacher, for season two.

Catlin will exec produce under his Short Drive Entertainment banner alongside Farrell, Audrey Chon, Simon Kinberg, Scott Greenberg and Chip Vucelich.

“It has been incredibly exciting to see audiences around the world embrace Sugar, and we are thrilled to return for a second season,” said executive producers Audrey Chon and Simon Kinberg. “We’re so grateful to our partners at Apple for their support, our showrunner Sam Catlin, the brilliant Colin Farrell, and of course, our viewers. We can’t wait to get John Sugar back on the case.”
