The vehicle retail platform CarGurus has shared a list of the best value used cars on the market, urging drivers to avoid buying these models new.
As the cost of motoring continues to rise, more drivers are getting behind the wheel of a pre-owned model in a bid to get more car for their money. However, the company highlighted that certain models have recently dropped considerably in price.
According to CarGurus, who compared the average retail price of various models in August 2024 with 12 months prior, the best value used car is currently the second generation Nissan Leaf.
The follow up to one of the first successful electric cars, the second generation Leaf may not be the most exciting model but offers plenty of room and a maximum range of 239 miles per charge.
Now is also a good time to buy a used Nissan Leaf, with average examples fetching £10,702 – down around £5,500 compared to 12 months earlier.
Another bargain currently available on the used car market is the Audi E-Tron, a premium electric SUV, known for offering a good mix of space and performance.
CarGurus highlighted that the average used Audi E-Tron fell in price by 34.5 percent since August 2023, with models typically listed at £26,670.
While there are more efficient choices on the market, the Audi is also known for having incredible levels of standard equipment, including a 10.1-inch touchscreen, ‘Virtual Cockpit’ instruments, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system on selected models.
However, not all of the biggest bargains on the used car market are electric, with CarGurus advising value-seeking motorists to consider a Fiat 500X.
Available with either a petrol, diesel or mild hybrid set up, largely depending on the model year, the 500X is a compact crossover that features the same retro appearance as the standard 500 city car.
CarGurus noted that the average used Fiat 500X cost just under £9,500 during August 2024, meaning prices fell by around £5,000 in a year.
