Your NVIDIA SHIELD TV is Finally Getting a New Update


NVIDIA has released a new update for the SHIELD TV, which has arrived a little over a year after the last update. The latest update for the device brings fixes for a number of issues. Notably, the last update for NVIDIA SHIELD TV was released in July 2023 as a first hotfix upgrade. The 2023 update resolved a lot of problems with the video playback, large file transfer to NAS, and sound sync issues. The latest update mostly targets enhancing the frame rate and fixing issues related to audio, HDMI, and others.

NVIDIA SHIELD TV’s latest update fixes many issues

NVIDIA has posted a detailed changelog of the latest upgrade for the SHIELD TV on its forums. The newest firmware for the TV device carries the number “v33.2.0.252”. The new update for the TV device fixes a number of known issues, apart from squashing various bugs in the software ecosystem. The company is also calling it the “Second HotFix” update for the SHIELD TV.

Notably, the new firmware “enhances” the Match Frame Rate (beta) for the device. It also includes a fix for GeForce Now crashing soon after launching. It resolves a problem with the SHIELD drive filling up. Furthermore, the official changelog mentions the new update fixes the issue when there’s no audio after a headset is connected to the controller and DAP is turned on.

Other fixes included in the latest update

Notably, the latest update for the SHIELD TV brings the ability to clear the HDMI 1.4 flag via factory reset. It also solves any problem with video distortion on the “RGB 8-bit Rec.709” display mode. It’s worth mentioning that the earlier firmware version showed that the USB HDD/Flash drive is corrupted after hot plugging. But, the new update fixes this problem.

According to the changelog, the other fixes problems like “NAS folder info shows 0 B and not the actual capacity”, “Mounted storages aren’t listed after upgrade”, and “Fixes occasional crashes in DRM apps”.

NVIDIA started rolling out the “Second HotFix” update for the SHIELD TV a few days ago. The new firmware is still based on Android 11. There’s no word on whether the company is planning to roll out an update with some major new features.
