Moment car hits cyclist head-on at junction sending him smashing into bonnet – but drivers can’t work out who’s at fault

DRIVERS have been left divided after footage emerged of a cyclist smashing into the bonnet of a car after being hit head-on at a junction.

The unfortunate rider was left writhing in pain on the floor but some suggested he only had himself to blame.

In the clip, which has since been posted to X, the cyclist can be seen filtering along the outside of a line of traffic leading to a T-junction.

The viewer’s perspective comes from the dash cam of the car behind, which caught the whole ordeal.

The rider approaches the junction and stops at the give way line in between a car to the left and the centre line of the carriageway on the right.

He doesn’t appear to indicate, but his position on the road would suggest he was turning right.

However, before he can set off, a black sedan attempts to turn off the junction into the lane going in the opposite direction.

The driver takes the turn at a considerable speed and gets it badly wrong.

Instead of turning harmlessly into the opposite lane, the car completely wipes out the cyclist in the middle of the road.

The biker is sent tumbling onto the bonnet before dropping off onto the tarmac.

He appears to land on the bike at an awkward angle between his legs as he falls.

Thankfully, the bike didn’t fall on top of him and the car stopped immediately.

Moment car smashes into lorry after swerving past motorcyclist in high-speed overtake – but who’s REALLY at fault?

But he still hit the floor hard and was left clutching his back in agony.

Several motorists, including the one involved in the smash, rushed out to check on him as one took out their phone, presumably to call an ambulance.

The person who posted the video asked commenters to chime in with who they thought was in the wrong.

But it led to more division than you might expect.

One wrote: “The car driver cut the turn.”

Another added: “The car driver can’t be bothered to make the turn properly.

“Dangerous driving.”

However, a third hit back: “It’s always the fault of the cyclist.”

And he was backed up by a fourth saying: “Looks like the cyclist was in the wrong lane.”

Under the Highway Code, though, it would appear that the car driver was in the wrong.

The cyclist was positioned legally well within the lane and the motorist crossed onto the wrong side of the centre line while making a hasty turn, which is not allowed.
