Earlier this year Microsoft announced a new Galaxy Black Special Edition of the Xbox Series X with a 2TB hard drive, and it’s now available for purchase if you wanted an upgrade.
The Galaxy Black edition console was announced alongside a new 1TB digital version of the Xbox Series X in white. As well as a new 1TB version of the Xbox Series S. Because let’s be honest with ourselves. Just 512GB is not enough with the size of today’s games. Performance-wise, these new console versions are the same as the ones already available. So you aren’t missing out on anything new here. If you already own an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, those will play games just as good as these new versions.
That being said, there’s still a reason to consider these new console versions. If you do have an older version of either and need more game storage, you have some options now. Without resorting to the expansion card that plugs into the back we might add.
The Galaxy Black Xbox Series X can be picked up through Microsoft and other retailers
If you’ve been waiting for this new version of the console to show up, you can now purchase it through Microsoft directly. It’s also available from Microsoft’s retail partners, including Best Buy. There’s also the chance that if you pick it up from Best Buy, you may actually be able to physically pick it up from your closest store. And that might be the way to go if you didn’t want to wait for it to be shipped out.
The Galaxy Black Special Edition is a bit pricier than the regular Xbox Series X because it has 2TB of storage. You could always look to offload your regular Xbox Series X to offset the $599.99 cost though. If you don’t really need 2TB of storage, you can save $50 and get the digital Xbox Series X in Robot White. This retails for $449.99. This model was leaked earlier this year and then officially confirmed by Microsoft a few months later.
Stock issues are a thing of the past
There was a time when it was nearly impossible to get a hold of the Xbox Series X. It was a time that was filled with scalpers snatching up every available unit they could get their hands on. A problem that was amplified by the supply chain issues that both Microsoft and Sony were facing with their latest consoles. Luckily, that time is long gone for the Xbox Series X. We had half expected to see “out of stock” labels for the Galaxy Black Special Edition. However, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Both Microsoft and Best Buy appear to have some ready to go.
We can’t say how long this will last, though.
