Some Northampton residents got an early Halloween trick after someone threw pumpkins on a dozen cars in the area over the weekend, authorities said.

The Northampton Police Department said they received multiple reports of smashed in windshields and hoods on Sunday. But on closer inspection, it seems the damage done to 12 local cars was caused by pumpkins.

In a post on Sunday, police said the suspect or suspects drove around the neighborhood late Saturday night, allegedly throwing pumpkins parked cars.

Photos show the cars with large fractures on their windshields and pumpkin bits strewn about their hoods.

Police encouraged residents of Crescent, Franklin, Massasoit, Federal Vernon, and South Main Streets, as well as Bancroft Road, to check their video doorbells for evidence of any pumpkin throwing.

In the post, police urged anyone with information about the pumpkin tossings to contact them at 413-587-1100.

Northampton police did not immediately respond to a request for an update on the state of the investigation.
