Razer's Barracuda X headset now comes with Chroma RGB

Razer has announced the Barracuda X Chroma headset today, its latest gaming audio peripheral aimed at multi-platform gaming. As the name of the headset suggests, the headset now comes with Chroma RGB lighting for that little bit of extra pizazz. Because it just doesn’t feel like a Razer product without the Chroma. Ok, that’s not entirely true. Plenty of Razer products don’t have Chroma RGB lighting. However, Chroma is synonymous with Razer, and many if not most of its products do offer it.

So that being said, headsets like the Barracuda X Chroma feel more like they come from Razer because Chroma has become almost expected with every new peripheral launched. Outside of the Chroma lighting, the new headset does come with some other improvements.

The Barracuda X itself is not a new headset as Razer launched a Barracuda X within the last few years. The “X” designates that it’s a more affordable option. Generally coming with a few less premium features. That is essentially the case here too, but the Chroma lighting does push the price up a bit. The original Barracuda X is $99.99, while the new Chroma model retails for $129.99. So you’re looking at a $30 price increase.

The newly announced Razer Barracuda X Chroma comes with better battery life

Chroma is the flashiest new addition to this headset refresh, but it’s probably not the most important change. Razer says the Barracuda X Chroma now comes with improved battery life over the previous model. How much of an improvement, you ask? It now lasts for up to 70 hours on a single charge. That’s an increase of 40% over the regular Barracuda X, which is pretty good.

This is undoubtedly without the Chroma lighting on. When you think about it though, you can’t see the Chroma lighting yourself if you’re wearing the headset. So if you’re concerned with battery life, then there’s no reason not to turn the lighting off.

Switch between platforms effortlessly

Most headsets will be usable across multiple platforms these days, and the Barracuda X Chroma is no different. It comes with a Razer HyperSpeed dongle in the box. You’ll use this for the low-latency gaming. Such as when you’re playing on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, or PC. You can then easily switch to using Bluetooth when you want to play on mobile and take the headset out of the house with you. Which is much easier if you’re just using the headset for streaming music or movies.

That being said, you could use the HyperSpeed dongle for mobile as well if you’re planning to do some mobile gaming. The headset comes with Razer’s 40m TriForce drivers for audio, and it also features a lightweight build with memory foam ear cushions for extended comfort during longer periods of use. You can buy the headset in Black today through Amazon as well as retailers like Best Buy, or directly through Razer’s website. Razer will also release the headset in a white model in late Q4 of this year.
