Chicago Transportation Company Owner Indicted for Tax Crimes – Bloomberg Law


A Chicago transportation company owner was indicted for not paying employment taxes, not filing business tax returns, wire fraud, and making false statements on a loan application, the Justice Department announced Friday.

According to the DOJ, Steven Cordell, owner of Starfish Transportation, withheld taxes from employee wages but did not fully pay the Internal Revenue Service. He also allegedly submitted false financial information and unfiled tax returns when applying for Paycheck Protection and Coronavirus Economic Relief for Transportation Services program funds.
