1 arrested for suspected DUI after train crashes into car stuck on tracks south of downtown Colorado Springs – KKTV

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – A driver is facing charges for DUI after police say she got her car stuck on railroad tracks near downtown Colorado Springs overnight and ran from the scene.

Officers were called to tracks near Sierra Madre and Mill Street just before 3 a.m. on reports of a train that had crashed into a vehicle. Once on scene, police confirmed the car was empty and no one was hurt.

Investigating further, officers determined that the occupant of the car had been trying to drive on the tracks and had ditched the vehicle when they heard the train coming.

“The initial investigation indicated that a driver had turned onto the railroad tracks as though to travel on them and had become stuck,” a CSPD lieutenant said. “Upon the approach of the train, the driver got out of the vehicle and fled.”

Police tracked down the driver a short time later. The lieutenant says she showed signs of potentially being intoxicated, and she was arrested for DUI. It’s unclear if she will face any charges for allegedly leaving her car on the train track.

The driver has been identified as Haleigh Micci.
