Apple introduces New M4 iMac along with New USB-C Accessories

Apple teased last week that it had a few announcements that would be starting today, and the first one up is the new iMac.

The refreshed iMac starts at $1,299 for the 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU version of the M4 with 16GB of unified memory and 256GB of storage. The most memory you can get on the iMac is still 24GB on the base model. However, the upgraded M4 versions with 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU do have an option to go to 32GB of memory. You can also get up to 2 TB of SSD while the baseline is stuck at a max of 1 TB.

A fully maxxed out M4 iMac would cost you $2,699 with 32GB unified memory and 2TB of SSD storage.

What’s new with the M4 iMac?

As mentioned, the first new thing is that the 8GB memory option is gone, thank God. That should hopefully mean that the MacBook Air with M4 will come with 16GB to start, too. It is also able to be configured with a nano-texture display, for the first time. Apple has also upgraded the iMac to have a 12-megapixel camera with Center Stage support. This is truly the first upgrade to the webcam in years.

As for peripherals, Apple did finally launch new versions of the Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse with USB-C connectivity. Allowing you to ditch Lightning finally. However, the Magic Mouse still has its charging port on the bottom of the mouse. Apple does include the new Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse in the box with the iMac. However, the Magic Trackpad is an optional upgrade.

Pre-orders for the M4 iMac are open starting today, with delivery starting on November 8. As mentioned already, the starting price is still $1,299, and it comes in the usual set of colors. This includes green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver.
