You can play the Pokémon TCG on Android now

If you want to be the very best like no one ever was, now you can do it anytime anywhere with the Pokémon TCG Pocket game that just landed on Android. It was initially announced back in February of this year. The physical Pokémon Trading Card game has been one of the most popular trading card games worldwide for a while, but it’s not always convenient to whip out your deck and set up a game. There’s also the fact that you’d need to have someone else to play with.

The digital Pokémon TCG alleviates both of those issues. You can just launch the game and find someone to play against, as it’s all online. It also makes Pokémon TCG more accessible to people. While Pokémon cards are sold just about everywhere, it can get expensive to continually buy packs of cards to try and fill out your deck. So this is a way to sort of circumvent that. And if you think about it, it’s kind of a neat way to play Pokémon TCG. You can always find an opponent to play against and hone your skills, while also having some fun.

Pokémon TCG Pocket is free to play on Android

As you may have guessed, this means the game will have in-app purchases. Think of it like Blizzard’s Hearthstone card game, which allows you to spend money on expansions and additional card packs. The nice thing about Pokémon TCG Pocket is that you will get free booster packs. The  Company says players will have access to two free booster packs per day to open. So there will always be an opportunity to get better cards.

As long as you’re launching the game every day, you won’t miss out on these packs. That seems like a nice little incentive for players who may not have a ton of extra money to spend on games. And it should keep players in the game longer and coming back more often. The game will also offer players a battle pass so they can unlock more cards and other items through gameplay. You can buy more booster packs beyond the two free daily packs as well.

Play quick matches when you have a spare few minutes

As a trading card game, Pokémon TCG Pocket lets you battle other players. The nice thing about this digital version is that games were designed to be quick and casual. They’re a streamlined version of what matches in the physical game might be like. The Pokémon Company doesn’t say how long matches will last, but it wouldn’t be surprising if they were around 10 – 15 minutes. That seems like more than enough time to get in a match or two.

The Pokémon Company also added some features to help onboard new players. Stating that matches were set up in a way that’s easy for new players to get into. These were designed to “make battling more approachable to beginners and casual players.” Trading card games can get fairly intense and complex. So this Android version of the game should make it so those who aren’t seasoned card game players have a chance to improve.

You can also play quick matches in single-player or multiplayer modes. Giving you two different ways to practice. Pokémon TCG Pocket is free on the Google Play Store as of this week.
