Apple has recently announced the new M4 MacBook Pro models along with an upgraded iMac and a redesigned Mac mini. While the devices are pretty capable in terms of processing power, the company saw fit to keep the design language the same as previous models. The design is not bad, per se, but it has been running for the past few years. A prominent analyst now claims that Apple is working to introduce a redesigned MacBook Pro in 2026 with an OLED display, which will replace the mini-LED display on the current models.
Apple’s 2026 MacBook Pro models will feature an OLED display and launch with a major design refresh
The new M4 MacBook Pro models have a new nano-texture display that refracts light, resulting in a more glare-free user experience. Now, the next big thing in terms of display technology for Apple is OLED, and it will gradually transition the entire Mac lineup over the years. Starting with the MacBook Pro in 2026, Apple will debut its first OLED MacBook Pro, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter.
Apple has already transitioned to OLED displays with the new iPad Pro models, and the devices have received good reviews in the tech community. OLED displays are superior to LCD and mini-LED displays. The panels’ low-power-hungry nature makes them a perfect fit for portable devices with extended battery life. Additionally, OLED panels are more color-accurate, with deeper blacks and a higher contrast ratio compared to the current variants on the MacBooks.
Apple’s design of the MacBook Pro models still feels quite new, but Gurman claims that the company is also working on a design refresh for 2026. As reported, the 2026 OLED MacBook Pro models will be thinner, potentially resembling the MacBook Air lineup. It remains to be seen how the company will pull this off, but we can presume that the company will redesign the internals with a slimmer thermal profile. The efficiency of the 2nm chips would also allow the company to retain the device’s battery devices.
With that said, we can expect next year’s MacBook Pro upgrades to be minimal in terms of performance with the M5 series of chips, including the M5 Pro and M5 Max. The external design of the devices will remain the same next year as well, so if you are planning to get a new model, it would be wise to skip next year’s models. We will be keeping a close eye on the upgrades, so be sure to stick around for more details on the subject.
