Amazon’s AI Recaps Will Save You From Rewatching The Last Season

It’s been a very long time since Amazon could be considered to solely be an e-retailer. Nope, at this point, the company just has to claim the umbrella term of “tech giant”, since they’re into a whole lot. One of the most popular non-shopping offerings the company has is the streaming service, Prime Video.

Prime Video exists in this era of AI, so it is very unsurprising to hear that Amazon is finding pretty clever ways to add AI to the package. Yesterday, the company introduced generative AI-powered recaps, and I have to say, I’m surprised this AI use case wasn’t explored earlier.

Prime Video’s New X-Ray Recaps Will Save You From Watching A Season All Over

You know what it’s like these days. You can be engrossed in a show that just came out and then finish it right away, but then you have to wait for the next season to come out before you have any idea how the story continues. Unfortunately, considering the fact that most people watch several shows in a year, by the time the next season of that first show comes out, you might have forgotten the finer details.

In these instances, you have three options. You can rewatch the entire previous season to get a full grasp of what happened, before proceeding into the new season. You can run to YouTube and watch an unnecessarily long recap to get reminded of where the story went. Or, you can just jump right in half-blind and hope that you’ll recall what happened.

However, there’s now a fourth option that might be the best of the bunch. Amazon’s Prime Video has just introduced X-Ray Recaps, which is a new feature powered by AI, allowing you to get a brief and comprehensible summary of an entire season, a single episode, or even just parts of the episode. That’s awesome. There’s no need to hop over to YouTube or spend several hours rewatching the last season or episode.

X-Ray Recaps Is Smart, Providing Info Based On Your Point In The Episode

One of the coolest things about this new feature is how smart it is. Let’s say you’re watching an episode and your dog starts peeing on your new sculpture. You rush out of the room, and by the time you’re done scolding him and cleaning up, it’s much later in the episode.

Sure, you can scrub back and start watching from where you were before, but what if you just want to continue watching? You can ask for a recap of the episode you’re watching, which will only give you a recap up to the part you’re at. That’s incredibly cool. Sure, recapping an entire season will very likely get more use, but the flexibility has to be appreciated.

X-Ray In Prime Video Is One Of Its Coolest Features

I watched the latest season of The Boys on Prime Video, and I instantly noticed that when I paused, a transparent sidebar would show all the actors on screen or in that scene, and at certain points, really neat trivia. Sometimes it could be about some behind-the-scenes information, something about a song playing, or even tidbits about how a certain scene was achieved. That’s X-Ray.

Honestly, X-Ray is one of the most interesting things about Prime Video. I mean, it is so interesting that I found myself checking here and there to see if a certain scene had trivia attached to it. I won’t be surprised if Netflix and friends adopt their own takes soon.
