Samsung has just released a new 30-second ad, which is titled “Simon Says”. The opening of the ad says, “Simon says, upgrade”, with a customer standing outside of a store (likely an Apple store) opening a new iPhone and asking “What’s new? Who cares.” Essentially indicating that Apple is releasing the same phone every year, something that Samsung has also been doing lately. It’s a case of pot met kettle.
This is not the first time that Samsung has gone after Apple, or vice-versa, and it definitely won’t be the last. After all, Samsung and Apple are the two largest smartphone makers in the world.
After shaming Apple for “what’s new”, Samsung then showed off the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Yeah, there are some new changes compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but nearly as many as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition that was announced for Korea. Samsung fans purchasing a new Samsung device in 2024 likely had the same experience as that disgruntled Apple user.
Samsung shows off “features” that Apple can’t do
As if it wasn’t cringey enough already, Samsung then shows off different features that its phones can do and the iPhone can’t. Like Live Translate on the cover display of the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Or using the S Pen on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. They also show off the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, which is ironic since they look just like the AirPods Pro but with RGB.
It’s not their best ad, but it is going to get people talking because of how bad it is. And, after all, that’s the entire point of these ads. Hopefully, Samsung will get the message and get a new bit for its commercials. You’ll likely be seeing this one a whole lot as the holidays approach and the holiday shopping season gets underway.
