Join the X-odus from Elon Musk’s toxic platform | Letters

We are delighted to see your announcement (Guardian will no longer post on Elon Musk’s X from its official accounts, 13 November). As a global justice organisation, we have been campaigning for all working for a better world to stop sustaining Twitter/X’s power and influence.

Each time we post on Twitter/X, without also posting it on another platform such as Bluesky, we give Elon Musk an “exclusive” – sustaining his wealth and power. It’s time to #StopBeingComplicit.

Once a space for genuine public discourse, Twitter/X now fuels hatred and division. We encourage all organisations and public figures concerned about global justice to join the X-odus and: ensure people can access all their posts without using Twitter/X; only consider posting on Twitter/X after they have already sent it out on at least one alternative, such as Bluesky; encourage people to follow them there rather than on Twitter/X.

I am writing my first ever letter to the Guardian, to say that I am really pleased that you have taken the brilliant and symbolic step of distancing yourselves from X. I can only hope that other mainstream news outlets follow the example you have set. Who knows, maybe even government departments will now do the same? It is a brave thing to do, to leave millions of followers behind you, but they will find you elsewhere, hopefully on your own website – well done!

I always thought X was something you click on to close it down.
