Governor Laura Kelly announced on Thursday that $5.9 million will be allocated to seven transportation construction projects through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Cost Share Program for fall 2024. This investment will be paired with $9.8 million in community matching funds, bringing the total project funding to over $15 million.
The Cost Share Program is aimed at advancing transportation projects in both rural and urban areas that enhance safety, boost job growth, reduce congestion, and improve mobility. It is a key component of the Kelly administration’s bipartisan, 10-year Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program (IKE).
Since its inception in the fall of 2019, the program has invested more than $152 million in state funding for Kansas communities. It remains one of KDOT’s most successful initiatives, funding 186 projects statewide and generating over $125 million in local matching funds.
“Our communities know their transportation needs best, and the Cost Share Program helps these communities address their specific challenges,” Kansas Secretary of Transportation Calvin Reed said. “KDOT is committed to fostering this collaboration to help create effective, locally-driven solutions.”
