Launched on November 4th, Realme’s GT 7 Pro is the first Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered handset to break cover. It sports an OLED panel with up to 6000 nits peak brightness, one of the biggest batteries you’ll find on a normal-sized phone, and a squarish design. In a world where so many flagships feature circular camera housings, the GT 7 Pro differentiates itself with a squarish design.
I’ve been a fan of Realme since it launched in Europe. Its strategy of offering high-quality hardware at an affordable price has included unique designs, ultra-fast charging, and other premium features you might not expect to see.
We’ve got the Realme GT 7 Pro in for review in the striking Mars Orange colorway, which as you can see from the image above, is pretty darn lovely and a breath of fresh air from the obsidian blacks of this world.
The phone’s power button and volume rocker are on the right edge, and the IR blaster is situated on the top edge. The camera housing is squarish in design, with the sensors located in the black glass section which is on top of a color-coded surrounding. It’s a nice change from the circular housing we see so much of nowadays.
That ultra-bright display we mentioned earlier? It’s a Samsung-sourced “Eco2 OLED Plus” LTPO panel that internalizes the polarizing plate function to improve light efficiency while reducing power consumption. It’s certified for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision content, and supports refresh rates of up to 120Hz.
Coupled with a humongous 6,500mAh battery, the GT 7 Pro certainly won’t lack stamina. Despite the size of the unit, the phone is just 8.6mm thick and weighs less than the Galaxy S24 Ultra. And thanks to the 120Hz, recharging the battery shouldn’t be a drawn-out affair. About the only thing missing is wireless charging.
We’ve already mentioned that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset provides the grunt; it’s accompanied by 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.
The rear camera setup sports a pair of 50MP sensors, both with OIS. The secondary camera is a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The third sensor has eight megapixels and is an ultra-wide lens. A 16MP camera sits in a central cut-out at the top of the display.
There’s IP69 certification included, and this gives Realme the opportunity to add a special underwater photography mode for its camera. Handy if you are on holiday and forgot to pack the GoPro.
Much like Oppo and OnePlus, Realme also benefits from the resolution of BKK’s spat with Nokia. As such, Realme has confirmed that the GT 7 Pro will be available in markets outside of China, such as Europe. A rough estimate of the base model’s price is around $505. However, it will almost certainly not be sold in the United States.
