LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The Nebraska Department of Transportation released the October traffic fatality toll on Friday.
During the month of October 2024, 23 people were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways, according to data collected by NDOT.
The 23 fatalities occurred in 20 fatal crashes.
Ten of the 19 vehicle occupants killed were not using seatbelts, seven were using a seatbelt, and two had seatbelt usage marked as unknown.
Eleven of the fatalities were in rural locations. There was one fatality on the interstate, eight on other highways, and fourteen on local roads. One of the fatalities was a motorcyclist, three of the fatalities were pedestrians, and one of the crashes involved a train.
Only 48 of the 164 vehicle occupants killed during 2024 were using seatbelts.
