Samsung tri-fold phone to arrive in 2025, another source claims

Multiple reports in the past few weeks are going in the same direction: a Samsung Galaxy tri-fold is planned for 2025. We’ve seen everything from leakers claiming the device’s existence to patents showing how it might look and work. Now, another source reiterates that Samsung is working on its “triple-screen” foldable device.

Huawei beat Samsung to the punch in the tri-fold device niche with the launch of the Huawei Mate XT. This was a coup that reflects the current state of the South Korean giant, a pioneer, and driver of the foldable screen segment. In recent years, the brand has been complacent, allowing other companies to surpass them in terms of innovation. However, disappointing financial results this year across multiple divisions are leading Samsung to shake things up.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 may get a tri-fold variant in 2025

This time it’s yeux1122m, a South Korean blogger, who mentions the company’s upcoming product. The source claimed on Naver that Samsung will launch a “Fold 7 Variant (Triple),” which refers to the device having three display sections. Although people commonly refer to them as “tri-fold,” this term isn’t technically accurate. After all, there are actually only two hinges. Anyway, the report says that the smartphone will arrive next year.

According to a recent report, the “tri-fold” device will only fold inwards. This is different from Huawei’s approach where one side folds inwards and the other outwards, taking on a “zigzag” form factor as you fold/unfold it. If this is indeed the case, the South Korean giant’s device will require an additional display to enable use while it is folded. Huawei’s form factor allows for a section of the foldable inner display to be available when it’s folded.

Exynos-powered Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE reportedly in the works

The report includes more info on Samsung’s line of foldable phones for 2025. The company could launch a Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE as a more affordable version of its next-gen clamshell mobile device. The device could run on the company’s Exynos 2500 chip. Lastly, like the current Galaxy Z Fold 6, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could get a Special Edition.
