Huawei has just announced its new flagship foldable smartphone, the Mate X6. The device was announced in China, though a global launch is expected in the near future.
The Huawei Mate X6 has been announced with thinner body & larger displays
The device is thinner, while it has larger displays and various other improvements. This is a book-style foldable, of course, and it’s made out of metal and glass. There are three cameras on the back, inside a circular camera island.
The Huawei Mate X6 features a 7.93-inch main display with a 2440 x 1880 resolution. The peak brightness here is 1,800, and this is an LTPO 2.0 display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also has a 1,440Hz PWM dimming.
The outer display measures 6.45 inches, and that display has a resolution of 2440 x 2240 pixels. The peak brightness is 2,500 nits, while this is also an LTPO 2.0 display that has a 120Hz refresh rate. It also offers a 1,440Hz PWM dimming.
It also offers stronger build than ever before
Huawei used carbon fiber in this phone’s build, while ultra-strong aluminum with a strength of 550MPa was also used. Such improvements are always nice to see, of course.
The device comes in 12GB and 16GB RAM variants in China, while 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options are available. The processor was not mentioned, but it could be the rumored Kirin 9100 chip.
A 50-megapixel main camera (RYYB, 10-level variable aperture f/1.4-f/4.0) is backed by a 40-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 48-megapixel periscope telephoto unit (4x optical zoom, RYYB array).
There is an 8-megapixel camera included on both inner and outer displays. They have a slightly different aperture, though. HarmonyOS NEXT comes pre-installed on the device in China.
Two different variants of the phone were announced, with different battery packs
The phone actually comes in ‘Standard’ and ‘Collector’s Edition’ variants. The two models do differ in terms of RAM + storage options, while the Collector’s Edition also has triple-network satellite support. On top of that, it comes with a slightly larger battery at 5,200mAh. The standard model has a 5,110mAh battery.
The Huawei Mate X6 supports 66W wired, 50W wireless, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging. The phone measures 156.6 x 73.78 x 9.85mm when folded, and 156.6 x 144.04 x 4.6mm when unfolded. It weighs 239 grams.
Huawei announced Black, Gray, Red, Sea Blue, and White color options of the phone. The ‘Nebula Gray’ model has a marble-like look. Depending on the model, you’re getting either glass or vegan leather on the back.
