Ohio Department of Transportation plans for a rock mitigation project – WTAP

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ohio (WTAP) – The Ohio Department of Transportation is preparing for a rock fall mitigation project.

The rock blasting is anticipated to begin the week of December 2nd of this year.

This area is located on the Noble and Washington County lines ranging from Macksburg to Dexter City.

This project will take place on the North and South Bound sides and could extend for a month.

As a result, traffic will be shut down for up to 15 minutes at a time, going both directions when the blasting takes place.

“We anticipate that starting the week of December 2nd, it could extend for a month, and as part of that, we will be stopping traffic in both directions on Interstate 77 intermittently for up to 15 minutes at a time while that rock blasting is taking place.” said Ashley Rittenhouse, ODOT District 10 Public Information Officer.

A public meeting to discuss the upcoming plans and for the contractor to explain the project’s process was held at the Noble County ODOT Garage.

ODOT will start with the Northbound side, which could take up to a month starting the week of December 2nd, 2024. Blasting on the Southbound side is estimated to begin mid-next year.

The estimated project time is a year-long, ending in December 2025.

The best advice from ODOT is to prepare for potential delays.
