Siri was never the most accurate of voice assistants out there, and it is likely that it misinterpreted a command that led Canadian artist Aubrey Drake Graham, better known as Drake, to drag Apple into a conspiracy. Apparently, the claim is that Drake’s music label, Universal Music Group (UMG), paid the Cupertino behemoth to misdirect Siri into playing Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us.’ For those who do not know, Drake has been involved in a rap feud with Lamar since the early 2010s, but this turn of events ensured that things have escalated to a whole new level.
Spotify has also been pulled into the conversation, with Drake having filed a lawsuit against his music label for being involved with Apple
A report from Billboard that was spotted by 9to5Mac states that Drake has dragged UMG, Apple, and Spotify into a legal filing in Manhattan. Drake alleges that UMG paid or approved payments to Apple to have Siri ‘purposely misdirect users to Not Like Us.’ It is mentioned that when users asked Siri to play the album ‘Certified Loverboy’ by Aubrey Drake Graham, the voice assistant instead played ‘Not Like Us,’ which contains lyrics that put disgusting allegations on the Canadian artist’s reputation. Drake’s lawyers have mentioned the details below.
“UMG … conspired with and paid currently unknown parties to use ‘bots’ to artificially inflate the spread of ‘Not Like Us’ and deceive consumers into believing the song was more popular than it was in reality. Online sources reported that when users asked Siri to play the album ‘Certified Lover Boy’ by [Drake], Siri instead played ‘Not Like Us,’ which contains the lyric ‘certified pedophile,’ an allegation against Drake.”
The attorneys have also said that Drake voiced the issue with UMG before heading into court, but the music label reportedly has little to no interest in taking responsibility for its misconduct. UMG has attempted to hide its actions, going so far as to get rid of staff that displayed even the slightest modicum of loyalty to Drake. You can view Drake’s entire legal filing here, but we will stand by our previous assumption, which is the likely malfunctioning of Siri that caused the error, prompting the Canadian artist to take action.
Then again, it could probably be Drake’s and Kendrick Lamar’s rap feud catalyzing the events that we are reading about right now. If any positive outcome can materialize from all of this, it could be linked to Siri receiving improvements to the point that it reduces the errors it makes. Then again, an upgraded Siri experience is said to arrive with iOS 18.3, and it could work with Apple Intelligence.
