Waze incident reports finally arrive to Google Maps

One of Waze’s best features has just arrived to the Google Maps app, incident reports. The rollout has started, and while not everyone may have this feature immediately, it’s coming soon.

The Google Maps app now shows Waze incident reports… finally

This change was announced at the very end of July. Well, the rollout has just started on Android. Needless to say, it’s coming to other platforms as well, iOS should get it soon, and it will be available on Android Auto, CarPlay, and Android Automotive.

Google said that these reports “come from the Maps and Waze communities, and you can even see which app a report came from”. Waze added that “Google Maps will surface reports from our drivers with attribution to Waze directly in the app,” starting with police alerts. In the future, “more data types will be shared and attributed to Waze”.

Waze also highlighted that this would not be possible without its partnership with Geo. Waze says that the goal is to bring “the most comprehensive map data to all drivers through bi-directional data exchange”.

We still don’t have this feature, but you can see it in action below

The feature is still not visible to us, but it may be visible to you. We’re not sure how long will the rollout take place, so some of you will have to be patient.

Someone over at Reddit shared the feature in action via a screenshot, which is included below. You can clearly see that the report comes from ‘Waze drivers’ in this case, and you can contribute to it as well, as you’re prompted with a question whether ‘Police’ is still at that location.

Needless to say, this is a welcomed addition to Google Maps. That service has over 2 billion monthly active users at this point. The same Google ‘Geo’ team manages both apps, though. We wonder if Google aims to integrate Waze into Google Maps entirely at some point.
