YouTube Music getting a 'Pin to Speed dial' customization option

A couple of months ago, YouTube Music got a notable UI change with the introduction of the Speed Dial. This new 3 x 3 grid took the place of the classic “Listen Again” section in an attempt to improve both visually and functionally the access to your favorite songs. Now, YouTube Music is getting a much-requested “Pin to Speed Dial” option that increases the customization possibilities.

In essence, “Speed Dial” functions similarly to “Listen Again,” but it boasts a more attractive presentation, enabling the inclusion of more items in the grids. Up to 27 of your favorite songs and playlists can be present in this section. However, both formats shared a common issue: their poor customization capabilities. Basically, it was YouTube Music that autonomously decided the content of both.

YouTube Music’s “Pin to Speed Dial” option enables more customization

Fortunately, that is changing with the new “Pin to Speed Dial” option. As its name suggests, it allows you to pin a song or playlist to the Speed Dial. That means the content will always be available from the same place with a tap. Previously, it could happen that one day a song was no longer as easily accessible, or it simply disappeared from the Speed Dial. These issues also occurred on the previous “Listen Again” format.

You can pin a song or playlist to the Speed Dial from the home screen or from the playback UI. If you’re in your main feed, you can long-press on any song or playlist to bring up the action menu. You’ll now see the new “Pin to Speed Dial” option available in the list. Meanwhile, if you’re listening to a song, you can tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the playback UI to find the option.

According to 9to5Google, the new option is available in the latest app update. Some features, such as the Speed Dial itself, have been introduced to the music streaming platform through a server-side change. However, the “Pin to Speed Dial” requires installing the v7.29 (Android)/v7.31 (iOS) updates. Lastly, the Android and iOS apps will synchronize your songs pinned to the Speed Dial.
