Huawei could launch new tri-fold smartphone next year

It seems like Huawei could launch a new tri-fold smartphone next year. That is, at least, according to a report from China. The information comes from Smart Pikachu, a tipster.

Huawei is tipped to announce a new tri-fold smartphone next year

He did not share any specifics but just hinted that a new model is coming in 2025. It will offer more powerful internals, of course, plus it could offer enhanced durability. Knowing Huawei, the company will also try to shave off some of the weight in the process too.

The Huawei Mate XT is not only Huawei’s very first tri-fold foldable but the world’s first tri-fold device as well. It was announced back in September, so only a couple of months ago.

We’ve had a chance to use the Huawei Mate XT, briefly. The phone launched in China only, for now, but a global variant is on the way, as Huawei confirmed. It is expected to launch next year for global markets.

Considering that it is the very first tri-fold foldable, it is not cheap, that’s for sure. In time, tri-fold smartphones will become cheaper, however, if other companies get on board, that is. Huawei will almost certainly get some competition, probably next year.

The Huawei Mate XT is already quite thin and light for what it is, but its successor could beat that

The Huawei Mate XT is already more than thin and light enough considering that it’s a tri-fold device. It’s hard to believe that Huawei managed to stuff all the tech in there and keep the device 12.8mm thick when folded. It also weighs 298 grams, which doesn’t make it light, but keep in mind this thing unfolds into a 10.2-inch device.

We’re not sure how will Huawei get it to be thinner and lighter than that, but it almost certainly will. The Mate XT also has a compelling camera setup on the back, and its main camera has a variable aperture.

An LTPO OLED display is used here, and it’s extremely sharp. It can become a 6.4-inch, 7.9-inch, and 10.2-inch panel, depending on what you need, of course.

A 5,600mAh silicon-carbon battery is included here, and we could see an improvement in that regard too. Despite the fact Huawei was limited with space inside the phone, this thing supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging, on top of supporting both reverse wired and wireless charging.
