Galaxy S21, S23 & A54 start receiving the December 2024 update

Samsung continues the rollout of the latest security patch to its Galaxy devices. The company started with recent flagships, such as the Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and the Galaxy S24 series. Now, Samsung is pushing out the December 2024 update to the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S21 series, and Galaxy A54.

As Galaxy device users will already know, Samsung is currently quite busy with the development of One UI 7. So, the latest monthly updates have been entirely focused on fixing bugs and vulnerabilities. Don’t expect to find any new features here, but luckily you won’t have to wait long for that, as the One UI 7 rollout will begin early next year.

The December 2024 update is reaching the Galaxy S23 series, S21 series, and A54

Starting with the Galaxy S23 series, the December 2024 update for the vanilla, Plus, and Ultra models shares the build number S91xBXXS7CXK6. On the other hand, the more affordable Galaxy S23 FE is receiving it under the build number S711BXXS6DXK8. The Galaxy S21 series shares the build number G99xUSQSEGXK3 for the update. Sadly, there is no build number available for the patch corresponding to the mid-ranger Galaxy A54.

You can check the availability of the monthly patch by going to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install. If you haven’t received the notification yet, you should get it in the next few days, depending on the region where you live.

An update fully focused on fixing vulnerabilities

Samsung disclosed all the fixes included in the update even before starting the rollout. The patch addresses up to 45 vulnerabilities in One UI, Android, and even Exynos chips. Regarding the vulnerabilities in the Android core, Google contributed 28 fixes for “High” severity and six for “Critical” severity ones.

On the other hand, Samsung Mobile included up to eight fixes for vulnerabilities present in One UI. These potentially allowed attackers to exploit features like ThemeCenter, Dex, and even Galaxy Watch Bluetooth connectivity. Lastly, the patch includes two fixes for Exynos-related vulnerabilities.
