You know that a company creates quality audio products when it’s been around for some time. Well, how about one that’s been around for 78 years? Japanese audio brand Onkyo has been captivating listeners since 1946, and it’s still alive and kicking. This company just announced something BIG, and it’s bigger than any product. Onkyo just announced that it’s been reborn, and it’s heading in a new direction.
From bikes to big business
Most top companies in our day and age come from humble beginnings, and Onkyo is a prime example of that. The company’s founder, Takeshi Godai, learned essential engineering and business skills while working at his family’s bicycle shop in Japan. These skills proved valuable when he was hired by Konosuke Matsushita, a person who also worked at the bicycle shop.
Matsushita started the Matsushita Electric Industrial Company and put Godai as the head of the speaker division. After World War II, both Godai and the Matsushita Electric Industrial Company parted ways. The latter would go on to become Panasonic, and the former would found his own company called Osaka Denki Onkyo.
This company would go on to become a world leader in audio. Having its name shortened in the 1970s, Onkyo brought forth a philosophy that “every product bearing the Onkyo name would exude precision, elegance, and an unsurpassed passion for regenerating sound with powerful accuracy.”
A new age – Onkyo reborn
Onkyo was acquired in 2021 by Premium Audio Company and Voxx International Corporation and invested massively in its R&D department. Now, just three years later, the company is unveiling a brand new identity. The Onkyo brand brought in a new set of colors to represent its overall aesthetic. It incorporates both cool and warm tones, creating a nice look overall. Take a look at the new brand logo below.
Partnerships
The company has a new headquarters in Osaka, Japan. Here, 59 experienced Onkyo employees, with an average 22-year tenure work tirelessly to bring the next generation of Onkyo products to the market. The company won’t only be bringing its own products. It will partner with other brands and implement its technology into their products. For example, Klipsch uses some of Onkyo’s technology.
Other companies’ technologies will also enhance Onkyo’s products as well. The company partnered with Dolby®, dts®, THX®, HDMI, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay®, Google Cast, Amazon Music, TIDAL, Deezer, Spotify, Pandora, Roon, Dirac, IMAX Enhanced, TuneIn, Works with SONOS, Qualcomm aptX HD, Savant, domotz, Elan, Crestron, AURO 3D, Over C Pro, Luxul ProWatch, URC, Control 4, Josh ai, and many others to bring you one the best audio experiences on the market.
New products
Now, what should you look forward to from this company? Well, Onkyo will unveil some new exciting products like a new line of home speakers and a new electronic separate series during CES 2025. That’s not far off, so there’s not long to wait.
We don’t know anything about these devices, but we do know that Onkyo company will raise the bar for home entertainment just like it’s been doing over the past nearly 80 years.
