Samsung has begun rolling out the December 2024 security update on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. Earlier this month, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 were the first to receive the latest monthly patch from the South Korean giant. This isn’t the long-awaited One UI 7 update, but it will make your foldable phone more secure.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 arrived last year, though their price drop and Samsung’s conservative approach on next-gen models have made them an even more attractive option. These devices are powerful, reliable, and will support all Galaxy AI features. While you wait for the Android 15-based One UI 7 update, Samsung is addressing up to 48 potential vulnerabilities exploitable by attackers.
The December 2024 security update is arriving to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5
The OTA’s build numbers differ slightly depending on the region. In the US, they are F731USQS5DXKC (Galaxy Z Flip 5) and F946USQS5DXKC (Galaxy Z Fold 5). For Europe, the build numbers are F731BXXS4DXKC (Galaxy Z Flip 5) and F946BXXS4DXKC (Galaxy Z Fold 5). For Korea, the build numbers are F946NKSS4DXKF (Galaxy Z Flip 5) and F731NKSS4DXKF (Galaxy Z Fold 5).
The update keeps the Android 14 core and the One UI 6.1.1 version. You won’t notice any changes after installing it, as everything looks and feels more or less the same. However, Samsung revealed that its December patch resolves up to 48 vulnerabilities, although most of the fixes come from Google.
More specifically, Google fixes 34 vulnerabilities in the Android core. This includes 28 “High” severity vulnerabilities and 6 “Critical” severity vulnerabilities. Meanwhile, Samsung Mobile fixed eight vulnerabilities that made some One UI features or services like ThemeCenter, Dex, and Galaxy Watch Bluetooth connectivity potentially exploitable. The list also includes two vulnerabilities that only affected Exynos-powered devices.
As usual, you should receive a notification that the update is available on your device. You can also try a manual availability check under Settings > Software Update > Download and Install.
Other devices that have received the update
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5 join a list of Galaxy devices running the December 2024 update. This list includes models like the Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S22 series, and the mid-ranger Galaxy A54. More eligible phones may receive the patch in the coming days—or even hours.
