The Nintendo Switch 2 still doesn’t have a firm release date but there may now be a better idea of when Nintendo plans to at least reveal it to the world, with the latest rumor suggesting a fairly close reveal date. Nintendo has said that it plans to reveal the new console by March 31, 2025. This is the end of the company’s fiscal year. Nintendo has also confirmed that it wouldn’t launch the console before this point.
So rumors have been suggesting that a launch could happen sometime in April, with the most recent suggesting Nintendo is shooting for a June launch date.
With regard to the reveal, the latest rumor suggests that it may actually be a lot closer than some are expecting. All of these details come from a Reddit post from 6 days ago from a user called NextHandheld. The post contains several interesting details about Nintendo’s Switch successor, and all of it stems from NextHandheld’s claim that they have physically touched a retail unit of both the Nintendo Switch 2 and its accompanying dock.
The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal may happen as early as January
According to the NextHandheld, after having spent some time with the retail unit they were able to see and feel, there was a lot they learned about the hardware. They were clear, however, that they weren’t able to power the console on and check out the software. So there are unfortunately no details about how things run. It is worth noting that all of this is still just a rumor. That being said, The Verge has reportedly spoken with this individual and believes they may be telling the truth about Nintendo’s upcoming console.
One such detail about the Nintendo Switch 2 is that it could be revealed in January. This is according to the Redditor’s source. Who was also able to give them access to the hardware. The console also seems to actually be called the Nintendo Switch 2. This is a detail that has been unclear since Nintendo acknowledged the Switch successor. The company never referred to it with an official name though.
With regard to the new name, when asked what it was NextHandheld said the logo for this new console was essentially the same, just with a big 2 in it. “All I can tell you is the first row is the old switch joycon icon and then a big 2, the second row is Nintendo, and the third row is Switch,” NextHandheld said.
The console will have a new U-shaped kickstand
Outside of the launch date, NextHandheld had a lot more to say about the new hardware. Nintendo has apparently replaced the wide kickstand that was used on the OLED model with a new U-shaped kickstand rail. The Verge says it has seen a photo that shows this off. It reportedly “looks beefier” than the one seen in some mockups and accessory manufacturer leaks.
Additionally, NextHandheld says there is a magnetic click when attaching the new Joy-Con controllers. This seems to suggest that rumors of the magnetic Joy-Cons were true. Speaking of the Joy-Con controllers for the Nintendo Switch 2, these will seemingly come with magnetic Hall Effect joysticks. This is a big deal if true because the original Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers had big issues with stick drift. So that may not be a problem this go-around.
