Qi2 is (finally!) coming to Galaxy devices in 2025

At this point, the only major phones to support the Qi2 wireless charging standard are the newer iPhones. This opens plenty of possibilities for accessories for iPhone users, but it leaves Android users in the dust. Well, at CES 2025, we got the news that Qi2 will make it to more Android phones, and this includes Samsung’s 2025 phones.

It seems odd that companies seem to be resistant to adopting Qi2 technology. It’s a great feature to have. The iPhone 15 was the only phone to adopt the technology when it launched, and that was back in 2023. In late 2024, we finally started to see Android OEMs adding the technology.

Samsung’s 2025 phones will have Qi2 wireless charging

Samsung has situated itself as the biggest competitor to Apple, so we were all wondering why the company didn’t hop onto the trend when Apple did it. It would have made its 2024 smartphones even more compelling. However, it looks like 2025 is the year for Samsung to hop on this technology.

The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) just released a new report stating that the technology is going to be expanding as 2025 goes on. The report also included a quote from Samsung. The company said, “The exceptional Qi2 growth story will continue in 2025. You can expect to see Android devices supporting Qi2 from Samsung Galaxy devices in 2025.”

The statement didn’t specify which devices will get the technology, however. It’s probably withholding embargoed information. In any case, we know that its 2025 handsets will come with this technology. We all hope that the upcoming Galaxy S25 phones will have Qi2. If not, then we have the rumored Galaxy S25 Slim, and future foldable phones to look forward to.

It’s not just Samsung

Along with Samsung’s 2025 phones, more Android devices are going to get Qi2 this year. Google released a statement saying that it’s committed to increasing penetration of Qi2 wireless among Android devices. While it’s up to the hardware developers to decide whether to implement Qi2 technology, Google will contribute to the Qi v2.2. We’re not sure what this standard will bring, but we know that it will have Google‘s influence.

Bringing Qi2 technology to more phones will have a positive impact on smartphone tech in general. People will be able to use MagSafe accessories on their phones without needing special cases.
