Retired WLS traffic anchor Roz Varon has started up a scholarship fund to remember her daughter, who died last week.
Sara Beth Janz was 29 years old when she died in New Mexico from a recent illness, Varon said.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I share the last picture I took with my sweet Sara,” Varon wrote on social media. “She passed away last week from her recent illness. When I returned home, the flowers she had given me were in full bloom. I will always remember her as the joyful spirit, filled with happiness on her wedding day last year.”
Varon started working at the ABC owned Chicago station in 1989. She retired in April.
Janz was a founder of the Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences junior board and was a former NATAS Chicago Scholarship recipient.
