You might be able to talk to Gemini Live about your files

So far, Gemini Live has proven to be a pretty underwhelming product. Outside of having scarily realistic conversations with a little voice on your phone, there’s not much more that you can do with it. However, Google wants to change that. According to a new report, Gemini Live might soon be able to talk about your files.

It’s important to note that this news comes from an APK deep-dive performed by Android Authority. The folks at AA dove into the Google app v16.1.38 beta. Google, and other companies, typically puts the code for new features in the current versions of their apps before they actually launch. However, there’s no guarantee that the feature will hit the stable build. So, you’ll want to take this news cautiously.

You might be able to talk to Gemini Live about your files

Since Gemini Live hit the public, Google has been working on ways to make it more useful. Being able to read your files might be the thing to make it a true AI assistant. AssembleDebug posted a video showing off Gemini reading one of his files. People typically use AI to look through their PDF files, so it makes sense the Assemble thought to use a PDF file in his example.

In the screen recording, we see him uploading the file. After it’s uploaded, he then summons Gemini Live. The assistant immediately recognizes that there was a file uploaded and starts the conversation with that context.

From that point, it’s as easy as asking whatever question you have about it. Gemini will give you the answer as a vocal response. Just like other Gemini Live conversations, Gemini will save that conversation in text form as well.

After that example, AssembleDebug then uploaded a screenshot of the Gemini screen and used Gemini Live to describe what’s in the screen. From that point, Gemini gave a description.

Giving Gemini Live the ability to read files might be the missing link that will make Gemini a true AI assistant. The thing about Gemini Live is that it can have a pretty “natural” conversation with you. This might compel more people to actually use the feature. The only thing is that we don’t know when Google will release it if at all.
