Apple last updated its Apple TV 4K set-top box in late 2022. So when is the next model coming? According to a new report, here’s when to expect the new Apple TV 4K to launch.
Next-gen Apple TV 4K launching ‘toward the end’ of 2025
Over the weekend, Mark Gurman published his first Power On newsletter of the year.
In the newsletter, he outlines Apple’s big plans for 2025. Among those plans? A new Apple TV 4K model.
But Gurman also gets more specific than he has previously on the new model’s timing.
The next generation Apple TV 4K is “planned for release toward the end of the year.”
Apple usually has a couple big launches in the fall:
- September brings new iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods models
- then October focuses on the Mac, and sometimes the iPad and miscellaneous other products
In 2024, Apple eschewed the traditional event format for its Mac launches, instead announcing its first M4 Macs over three separate days.
Those new Macs then shipped to users in early November.
It sounds like, based on Gurman’s report, that the new Apple TV 4K should arrive in October or November.
October may be the announcement timing, but it’s always possible it will actually ship in November like new Macs sometimes do.
This would prove almost exactly three years after the last Apple TV update.
Features to expect from the new Apple TV 4K
So far, not much is known about what new features Apple is planning for its next-gen Apple TV 4K.
We know it’s expected to include a new Apple-made Wi-Fi modem, which could lead to networking improvements with Apple’s expanding Home device ecosystem.
Outside of that, support for some level of Apple Intelligence features is expected.
Though most current AI features aren’t a good fit for tvOS, we should at least see a new, more capable Siri emerge.
To enable AI, the Apple TV 4K would need to come with a more powerful chip, such as the A17 Pro or A18, and upgraded RAM.
Beyond these changes, however, there are a lot of unknowns still about the update.
