Google introduced Android 15 last year, although many smartphones have not received it yet. The company is already working on Android 16 and recent leaks have already revealed some of its key features. Now, a report claims that Google will redesign the Android 16’s volume slider.
Google could bring a redesign to Android 16’s volume slider
According to Android Authority, Google will bring a new design to the volume slider in Android 16. The company could implement multiple visual changes compared to the current one. According to the report, the new UI will ditch the thick, pill-shaped volume sliders in favor of slimmer and minimalistic ones with distinct handles.
Android 16’s new volume slider could be slightly similar to the slider seen on the Google Search widget’s transparency customizer. The images shared by the source show the big differences between the current version and the one that could arrive in Android’s next big update. The new minimalistic sliders could make their way to both the standalone vertical UI that appears when you press the physical volume buttons and the horizontal UI found within the expanded overflow settings.
The new volume slider will be less rounded
Furthermore, the music note icon now sits at the bottom of the slider. The three-dot icon that triggers the overflow volume panel also seems to have undergone a size reduction. Notably, the volume slider in Android 16 will be less rounded and will feature a thin rectangular handle.
The source managed to activate the new slider by tweaking some things in the Android 16 DP2 code. That said, there’s still no guarantee that the redesigned volume slider will make it to Android 16. There’s a possibility that Google could simply drop the idea during development. The new look looks fresh, although some probably prefer the current UI out of habit.
