Gurman also added that Apple may decide to replace the M2 generation iPad Air devices with M4 chip ones in the spring, completely excluding the M3 generation from the lineup. “The new iPad Airs—code-named J607, J608, J637 and J638—will be more about specification upgrades than design changes. The current version, introduced last year, has the M2 chip. I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if the 2025 models get bumped up to the M4, matching the iPad Pro,” Gurman wrote in his newsletter.
This won’t come as a surprise since Apple did the same with the iPad Pro range in May 2024, which was expected to sport the M3 chip but ran the M4 instead, skipping the former generation entirely. Also, the in-house 5G modem could show up in the iPad Air, although there aren’t any design changes expected.
Those interested in other, newer, Apple products, should know that the company announces, or rolls them out during its various events, two in particular. These are the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which is generally held in the Summer and is mostly focused on software. Then there is the Fall season event when it launches its next iPhone series, this time iPhone 17.
