Netflix's latest price increase impacts standard and premium plans

Netflix is undoubtedly the most popular streaming service at this point. However, the frequent price hikes in Netflix plans have frustrated users to the point where they want to cancel the subscription altogether. We are in the first month of 2025, and Netflix has announced yet another price increase, impacting both the standard and premium plans.

Netflix’s latest price increase impacts both standard and premium plans

Netflix, which released its latest earnings report today, announced a price hike across most plans in the US, Canada, Portugal, and Argentina. Folks over at The Verge reported that Netflix spokesperson MoMo Zhou detailed the latest price increase. According to Zhou, the monthly standard ad-supported plan sees a bump from $6.99 to $7.99.

On the other hand, the standard ad-free plan is increasing by $2.50, from $15.49 to $17.99 per month. The premium Netflix plan now costs $24.99 per month, $2 more than what it used to be. The streaming giant also terminated its most affordable plan back in July last year.

Talking about the latest price hike, Netflix, in its earning report notes, “As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix.”

Netflix has surpassed the milestone of 300 million subscribers as well

Let’s not forget that Netflix has also introduced a new Extra Member with its Ads plan. In simple words, you can add someone outside your household to your subscription if you are on the ad-supported plan. Netflix added that the cost to add extra members on standard ad-free plans increases from $7.99 to $8.99.

However, there’s no price change for adding extra members on ad-supported plans. The streaming giant also announced that it finished 2024 on a high in terms of subscriber count. Netflix stands tall as the biggest streaming service with 302 million subscribers globally. Furthermore, a staggering 19 million subscribers joined the platform only in the last quarter of 2024.
