Apple’s rollout of Apple Intelligence has been slow. The AI suite debuted with iOS 18.1 but initially launched in only a limited number of markets and languages.
Since then, the company has expanded support to more regions and languages, but there is still significant ground to cover. This April, the company will further accelerate its efforts and expand Apple Intelligence’s availability to more languages.
Apple Intelligence set for major international expansion
Apple’s AI features have expanded beyond the U.S. and are now available in key markets like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the U.K. However, they have yet to reach several other major regions. Cook
During Apple’s Q1 2025 financial call, Tim Cook outlined the company’s plans to expand Apple Intelligence internationally (via SeekingAlpha). Below is what he said:
In April, we’re bringing Apple Intelligence to more languages, including French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and simplified Chinese, as well as localised English to Singapore and India.
The rollout of Apple Intelligence in Europe and support for the simplified Chinese language should help boost iPhone sales outside the US.
Cook also confirmed Apple’s plans to roll out “an even more capable Siri” in the future. Although Apple hasn’t mentioned them, these changes will likely be part of iOS 18.4, set for release in April.
iOS 18.3 enabled Apple’s AI features by default
While iOS 18.1 and 18.2 introduced several Apple Intelligence enhancements, iOS 18.3 brought no major changes. It only enabled the AI suite of features by default for everyone upgrading to iOS 18.3 (or iPadOS 18.3) on their iPhone and tweaked how notification summaries work.
You can try Apple Intelligence on your iPhone right away, even if it does not support your dialect. Navigate to Settings > General > Language & Region and set the language to English (US) to enable the AI features.
This trick also works on iPads and Macs running the latest iPadOS and macOS Sequoia build.
