For all the fashion and retro game lovers out there, Atari has teamed up with watch manufacturer Nubeo to launch a specially designed Asteroids watch. It’s been released to commemorate the game’s 45th anniversary (despite being released in 1979).
The watch is designed with a multi-layer disc system that reflects the game’s iconic gameplay. It features a Japanese automatic movement, steel case and sapphire crystal lens. In addition, it has a water resistance down to 200m depth.
Reading the time on this watch is not as easy as on your smartwatch.
Instead of regular hands, two UFO symbols are used to display hours and minutes. The small delta-shaped spaceship in the centre acts as a second hand, while its laser shot moves across the dial.
To make things even more chaotic, asteroids rotate around the discs, making for a completely unique (but potentially confusing) display.
As an added nostalgic touch, the watch comes in a box designed to resemble an Atari VCS console and comes in five colours: Nebula Blue, Supernova Red, Nightfall, Plasma Pumpkin and Celestial Citrine.
“With its exhibition caseback, custom rotor, and engraved details, each Ventana is a rare collector’s gem,” said the firm.

If you’re in the market for an Asteroids watch, you need to act fast and, sadly, be based in the US. Only 625 have been made and they cost $499 each from Atari.
They are also listed on the Nubeo website at £492 (curiously reduced from £1,627) but all models are sold out there.
