Samsung Could Make Interesting Chip Choices with 2025 Foldables

Samsung has gotten the first flagships for 2025 out of its system, and now, we only need to wait about half a year before we see the next batch. That will be the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. It’s a bit too early to know too much about them, but we have started hearing a few things. Since it’s early though, remember, a pinch of salt.

Rumors had it that Samsung planned the Exynos 2500 for the S25 series but was unable to use it due to poor yield. That made it seem like it’d be able to get its yield problems sorted out before mid-2025, and that led to rumors that the new foldables would exclusively use the new Exynos. That doesn’t seem to be entirely the case, though.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Is Rumored for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Globally

Samsung only has two major foldable lines, but it is obvious which of the two is intended for power users. The Galaxy Z Fold is the bigger model and comes with better specs around the board compared to the clamshell Z Flip. Whether Samsung’s Z Fold is the best overall foldable for power users each year is heavily debatable (I don’t think it is—at least not anymore), but it’s the way to go if you’re in the Samsung camp.

It’s that power user mentality that makes a recent rumor from PandaFlashPro on X rather unsurprising. He says that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will come with the Snapdragon 8 Elite in all regions of the world—perhaps Samsung realizes that the Exynos 2500 can’t deliver the degree of performance that most might desire.

On top of that, we get a look at the storage configurations. Apparently, all variants will come with 12GB of RAM and you’ll get the choice between 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB of storage. Nothing too surprising there.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 Could Stick to the Exynos 2500, Could Be Worldwide

Meanwhile, in the world of the Galaxy Z Flip, the same post from PandaFlashPro details the storage options for the Z Flip 7—12GB of RAM with either 256GB or 512GB of storage—but makes no mention of the chipset that’ll be used. There’s a likely reason for that.

It’s not confirmed, but it seems that the Z Flip 7 could potentially be the only 2025 flagship to offer the Exynos 2500 as an option. Whether that will be the only option isn’t certain. Samsung could potentially do the Snapdragon-Exynos split that it pioneered with numerous past flagships, depending on the region of the world that you live in.

The Pricing of Samsung’s Next Foldables Is Rumored to Stay Static

In somewhat related good news, just like the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, you don’t need to expect a pricing increase with the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, especially after we got one last year. The devices are going to stay the same price, so you can start saving if you’re planning to get either of them.

It is a little annoying, though, as we expected foldables to get cheaper the longer they were in the market. I’m sure the OEMs are too comfortable with their profit margins to change anything, though.
