Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 series this month, though we already knew pretty much everything about the devices thanks to leaks. The company has more releases lined up for this year, including the Galaxy S25 Edge, the new Galaxy Z Fold/Z Flip models, and phones in more affordable ranges. Samsung has now revealed more details about its plans for foldable and Galaxy A phones for 2025.
Samsung is not planning a revolution with its 2025 foldables
During its Q4 2024 earnings call, a Samsung executive teased what its upcoming foldable phones will offer. “We’re aiming to enhance the form factor design and durability while also diversifying our lineup later this year in order to expand our customer base,” the official said (via Jukanlosreve on X/Twitter).
Leaks related to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 point to conservatism in terms of tech specs, and the company’s executive seems to confirm it. The South Korean giant won’t surprise the industry with revolutionary hardware. Instead, it will focus on refining the current designs to make them potentially thinner, lighter, and more durable. Similar to the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung will put a lot of emphasis on software features and optimization to improve the user experience compared to the current Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6.
The executive also mentions that the firm will diversify its device lineup. He is probably referring to the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip FE that is targeting an affordable price segment. A foldable device at a competitive price and from a recognized brand will probably be very well received among the mainstream public. Another executive confirmed the existence of the device last November, revealing that it will use the Exynos 2500 chip. Recently, the company also teased the arrival of its first tri-fold smartphone.
Galaxy A mid-rangers to improve in some key areas
There are also details about the company’s next mid-range and low-end Galaxy A devices. Starting with the mid-range, the official said that Samsung will “enhance the core specs that consumers really care about, like the design, the display, and battery (sic). And prepare a go-to-market strategy on par with that of our flagship devices.”
The Galaxy A56 will be the South Korean firm’s next “mid-range king.” Leaks suggest that the Exynos 1580 chip will power this device. Although Samsung mentions improvements in battery life, the phone could keep a 5,000 mAh cell. So, the enhanced endurance could come from a more efficient chip and software optimization. You can expect a more “premium-like” design and a better-quality display, though.
More affordable Galaxy devices won’t bring big improvements
Lastly, the Samsung executive also talked about upcoming affordable phones from the company. This could include the Galaxy A1x and A0x models. Fans of these lineups might be disappointed to read that they won’t have any major improvements or better prices.
“Regarding the competitive situation in the mass market segment. Rather than engaging in price wars or directly competing on particular specs — what we call pin-to-pin — we aim to strengthen communication about our strengths, like security and overall product competitiveness, mainly targeting emerging markets like the Middle East and Africa,” the official said.
Basically, Samsung will just improve the way it markets its more affordable Galaxy smartphones. The company wants people to know about its unique features in its price range. For example, the latest Galaxy A16 boasts up to six years of Android updates.
