Galaxy S25 Ultra durability tests show "fake" camera rings

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is Samsung’s latest, most premium smartphone. Its design follows a conservative and continuous line with respect to previous generations, betting on refinement and optimization. Zack from JerryRigEverything has now tested the durability of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

As is usually the case with each major launch in the smartphone industry, JerryRigEverything shares a video “torturing” the new product. These videos include situations that go far beyond the normal use you would give your device. However, it is useful to see how resistant they are to certain extreme conditions.

JerryRigEverything puts the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s durability to the test

The new Galaxy S25 Ultra boasts Gorilla Armor 2 glass to protect its screen. The scratch resistance test showed that the device’s screen starts to show light scratches at level 6, getting slightly deeper grooves at level 7. This is similar to what other expensive modern flagship phones offer and seems to be the limit of what today’s most advanced technology offers. Tests on Apple’s Ceramic Shield material present in the iPhone 16 yielded similar results.

Zack also performed a burn test on the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s screen, leaving a permanent mark after about 30 seconds of exposure to a lighter’s flame. The iPhone 16’s screen appears to be more resistant to this type of damage, according to the YouTuber’s own tests.

The phone’s titanium-made flat sides and aluminum buttons also went through Zack’s razor. There is an audible sound difference between the two components when scratched, although in both cases they get deep grooves.

The rear area of the Galaxy S25 Ultra is covered by a layer of frosted glass that gives it added durability and a premium feel to the touch. Zack’s tests showed that this area won’t scratch easily. This is the same case with the camera lenses, which is great news since you won’t have to worry about scratches affecting the quality of your pictures and videos.

“Cheap” solution to implement metallic camera rings

Regarding the camera module, the Galaxy S25 Ultra includes new metal rings around the sensors. However, it seems that Samsung has implemented them in a somewhat “cheap” way. Rather than seamlessly blending into the phone’s body, Samsung has simply glued the rings over the sensors. There’s a certain gap between the rings and the rear area where, after inserting the knife and applying some force, Zack was able to tear them off.

Lastly, the YouTuber subjected the Galaxy S25 Ultra to a bending test. The smartphone came out on top, proving extremely resilient in such situations. This could save you a headache if you happen to put your expensive device in your back pocket and accidentally sit on it.
