Being a tech journalist and a dad means that I lean into what gadgets can do to make parenting life similar and easier. Fortunately, my most used parenting gadget just got even better in the form of a new model.
The device in question is the CuboAI Smart Baby Monitor. I’ve been using it since my daughter was 6-months old and she just turned two before Christmas. Now things have been upgraded with the Monitor 3.
I knew a decent baby monitor was going to make a big difference and I didn’t want one of those ones which come with a tiny little monitor with a low-resolution screen.
My favourite feature is that the CuboAI doesn’t even come with a display. Instead, the app means you can use just about any phone or tablet (or even my Google Nest smart displays with a voice command) lying around the house as a monitor – and I can access it from when I’m not even at home.
CuboAI
Like most tech journalists, I’m not super keen on AI (what with them trying to do my job and all) but the AI here is far more on the genuinely useful side. Things like alerting me to her room being outside temperature or humidity range or even if she’s crying.
Another advantage is that the app and camera software have received many updates in the time I’ve been using it, so it gets better over time. With the CuboAI Smart Baby Monitor 3, there are a number of upgrades.
CuboAI Smart Baby Monitor 3 new features
For starters, the new camera is able to provide a 2.5K Quad HD resolution image, up from Full HD. It’s an instantly noticeable difference, with an amazingly crisp picture, even when it’s pitch dark in her room.
This is once again housed in a cute bird design with a rotating camera so in the future, when it’s not looking straight down into a cot, I can move it to a shelf to oversee her whole room.
The design has been tweaked, now removing the awkward dongle which measures temperature and humidity from plugging into the USB-C port at the back and putting it in-line on the cable, hiding it inside the metal stand.
Furthermore, the night light is now a proper strip at the back and I can rewind the video back a whopping three days rather than 18-hours if I need to. That’s the longest on the market, according to CuboAI.

CuboAI also says the camera’s safety detection works 6x faster, though I can’t test this to confirm. It now works in real-time for real-time for covered-face and rollover detection which would have been even more anxiety-reducing as a new parent.
There are yet more upgrades, and one I would have loved when my daughter was a newborn as they are notoriously difficult to measure. However, the Monitor 3 offers a first-of-its-kind automatic height measurement for 0-6 months using the camera and software alone.
Even though I don’t need some of these features now my daughter is a bit older, it’s still a great bit of kit and easily one of the best baby monitors money can buy.
Speaking of money, you can buy a CuboAI Smart Baby Monitor 3 for £229/$239 with the wall-mount kit or £329/$359 with the floor and mobile mounts. Either way, you get a year of the CuboAi Care Premium subscription included. Shipping starts on 5 February.
It might seem like a lot, but you can easily spend a similar amount on gadgets like baby rockers which they’ll only fit in for a few months.
